Belgian Acts Fail to Draw Viewers in Got Talent Season Premiere

Christopher Young·September 5, 2026·2 min read

The new season of Got Talent opened with its weakest audience numbers since 2008, according to a report from Dutch news outlet AD.nl. The premiere, which featured Belgian contestants, failed to attract viewers, marking a historically poor start for the talent competition.

AD.nl reports that the show’s opening episode recorded its lowest viewership in nearly two decades. The outlet did not specify exact figures but described the result as the worst since 2008, a sign that the revamped format has not resonated with audiences so far.

The season includes notable changes, including a new role for presenter Chantal Janzen, who now co-hosts alongside Belgian singer Koen Wauters. Viewer reactions to Janzen’s altered position have been negative, with some calling it a “very bad choice,” according to Veronica Superguide. Meanwhile, judge Karen Damen told Linda magazine that she worries about offending contestants, saying she is “always afraid of hurting people.”

Judge Dan Karaty, returning to the panel, has also weighed in on the new acts, offering his assessments of the performances in the refreshed show, as reported by TVgids.nl. In a separate interview with HLN, Wauters spoke about his role and his family, noting that his children “will lack nothing.”

The combination of low ratings and mixed feedback on the new lineup suggests the show faces an uphill battle this season. Whether audience numbers recover in coming episodes will depend on how viewers respond to the remaining auditions and the chemistry of the new presenting duo.
